Taft Aldrich (Gardner,6Sylvanus,5Peter,4 Samuel,3 Joseph,2 George. 1) was born April 27, 1804 in Providence, Rhode Island. [1] His parents were Gardner Aldrich and his wife Anne Colwell. [2]
Marriage
He married Roxanna Craine who was born in 1798 at Cortland, Chenango, New York. Her parents were Jonathan Craine and his wife Sibyl (Ranney) Craine. Roxana died in 1839 in Cortland, New York.[3]
Cyrus C., born August 5, 1833; married Amanda Chapin and moved to California
Ambrose, born May 14, 1838 and died April 1 1862, Civil War
Harriet, born June 20, 1839 and died April 11, 1840
Propose Taft and Roxana were married prior to 1830. Propose more than three children born to the Taft/Roxana Aldrich union. Based on the 1855 New York State Census we see that Taft has remarried (Julia). The oldest child of Taft/Roxana is Roxana Venturia Aldrich Filkin who was married at age 18 and was out of the home for the 1855 census as was Cyrus. Roxana Venturia Aldrich was born in 1827. Roxana Craine Aldrich died in 1839. The family of Roxana Venturia Aldrich Filkin has a photo notated on back, "Delia Aldrich Treat, Grandma's sister, Orin's mother's sister". The 1855 New York State Census indicates Delia was born in about 1853 (she would be the child of the Taft/Julia Aldrich union).[4]
2nd Marriage
Taft's 2nd marriage was to Julia A. Monroe (uncertain about her last name?) [5] Sometime between 1850 and 1860 they moved to Catlin, Vermillion, Illinois.
Taft died February 21, 1866 in Sangamon County, Illinois. He is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery of Clear Lake, Clear Lake, Sangamon County, Illinois.[8]
