Nancy Jane Aldridge was born 22 December 1842 in Marshall, Madison, North Carolina, United States. Her parents were James Thomas and Mary Chadwell Aldridge. Around 1857/58 her parents moved the family from Tennessee to the small community of Orangeville, Fannin, Texas. The area around Orangevillle had been first settled in 1836 making it one of the earliest settlements in Fannin County and North Texas. When Nancy and her parents arrived the community of Orangeville had grown large enough to have its own post office. By the 1870's Orangeville was booming with a population of about 175 and 18 thriving business enterprises. Nancy was about 18 and it was there in nearby Trenton, Fannin County on 28 Sep 1860 that Dr. William F. Welch and Nancy Jane Aldridge were married.
