Biography

Oris was born 17 November 1887 to John Aler and Matilda Hanks.[1] In 1900, the Aler family was living in Adams Township, Muskingum County.[2]

Oris married Flora Lacy on 23 December 1909 in Muskingum County.[3] In 1910, they were living in the household of Marvin and Mina Cox.[4] They were living in Adams Township in 1920[5] and 1940.[6]

Oris died 3 November 1966 in Coshocton.[7]


"Oris T. Aler, 78, a native of Muskingum County, of Coshocton Route 5, died at 11:50 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 3) in Coshocton Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

He was born Nov. 17, 1887, in Muskingum County, son of John and Matilda Hanks Aler.

A retired carpenter, he had been employed by the Muskingum Valley Lumber Company retiring in 1958. He was a member of the Episcopal Church at Dresden. On Dec. 23, 1909, he married Flora Lacy who died in 1956.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Baughman of Cleveland, Ohio; Miss Leah Aler of Cleveland, Tenn.; Mrs. Gertrude Murray and Miss Helen Aler, both of Columbus; two sons, John T. Aler of Bremen and Kenneth L. Aler of West Lafayette; seven grandchildren and one-great-grandchild.

Services will be held at 3:15 p.m. Saturday at Dawson Funeral Home in Coshocton with Rev. Neil Roller officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery."[8]
