There is a family photo owned by Nancy Ann Alexander of Margaret Elizabeth Alexander; the note on the back says “8th Grade, South Bend, Indiana.
Frank Alexander Hamill has Margaret E Alexander's high school year book filled with photos, newspaper clippings, hand-written messages, and memorabilia including her offer letter and her signed original Spanish teaching contract with Longview Independent School District of Gregg County Texas (signed 24 June 1924, for $135 per month). The contract was sent in an envelope addressed to Miss Margaret Alexander, 211 South Pleasant Street, Independece, MO with a 2 cent stamp. IN the pages is also the Marshall High School Commencement announcement dated May 28, 1920; it came in an envelope addressed to Rev. J. M. Alexander, N. Jefferson St., and the return address is Eugene Johnson, 106 E. Arrow, Marshall, MO. I have the High School Baccalaureate Services program, with a newspaper clipping reporting the event, which occurred May 23, 1920. The news clipping says that the graduating class was 44 pupils. The invocation was done by her father, Rev John M Alexander, cited as "paster of the Christian Church". Inside the year book, there is a section with the heading "Favorite Studies". On one of those pages, it references that Margaret's favorite studies between 1916 and 1917 were at South Bend High School. THe next page reports Margaret's favorite studies between 1918 and 1919 at Marshall High School. So the family moved from South Bend Indiana to Marshall Missouri in about 1917 or 1918.
