Biography

John Graham Alexander was born in Calhoun Township, Columbia County, Arkansas in 1867 and possibly on 10 February 1867. His parents were Samuel Alexander and Mary Brumfield Alexander. [1][2]

Research Note: For reasons not determined, John's older sister Nora was not enumerated in the 1870 census. See 1880 census below.

As on the 1880 census John's family had moved a few miles to Calhoun, Columbia County, Arkansas. [3]

On 20 December 1888 John G. married Maggie Pickering in Columbia County, Arkansas. [4]

John and Maggie almost certainly settled in Calhoun Township, Columbia County, Arkansas where both their birth families were living at the time of their marriage and where they were living as of the 1900 census. [5]

As of the 1910 and the 1920 censuses John and Maggie continued to live and farm in Calhoun Township. [6] [7]

Maggie died on 8 July 1924 in Calhoun Township where she had lived her entire life and was buried near her parents in the Village Cemetery, Village, Columbia County, Arkansas. [8]

As of the 1930 census John continued to live and farm in Calhoun Township. Two of his daughters and a grand daughter were living with him. [9]

Research Note: Ida Harwell was daughter Ida Lee who had married William Harwell. William had died 1926.

As of the 1940 census at age 76 John continued to live on his farm in Calhoun Township. Daughter Bobbie now age 40 and single continued to live with her father. [10]

John died on 14 September 1944 at his home in Calhoun Township, and was buried with his wife Maggie in the near by Village Cemetery, Village, Columbia County, Arkansas. [11] [1]
