Wife of Luther Douglass 1833–1915.

Chico Record, Tuesday Morning, September 28, 1909, pg 1 col 5:
Dies While On Visit to Son.
Mary Douglas, mother of Dr. H.E. Douglas of this city, died at the home of her son last evening at 8 o’clock following suffering from pneumonia.
The deceased came to California three months ago for a visit with her son. She was born in Pennsylvania, August 16, 1840, and was therefore sixty-nine years of age. She leaves a number of other relatives besides the son and husband.
Arrangements for the funeral have not been made pending the arrival of relatives.

Funeral Arrangements Await Arrival of Relatives. Arrangements for the funeral of the late Mary Alexander, mother of Dr. H.E. Douglass of this city, have not been perfected, pending the arrival of relatives from the east.
Mary Alexander was born in Westmoreland county, Penn., 1840, died in Chico, Cal., September 27, 1909. She was married to Luther Douglass, March 22, 1860. Moving Iowa the same years she resided there until three months ago, when she moved to Chico with her husband to make their home. She was a charter member of the United Presbyterian church, Chariton, Iowa, organized in 1857; was a conscientious Christian woman, a loyal member of the W.C.T.U. and Relief Corps and was an army nurse at Benton barracks hospital, St. Louis, during the Civil war.
She leaves, besides the husband, two daughters and three sons to mourn her passing: Mrs. Thos. Auld, Denver, Col.; Sylvia M. Douglass, Ontario, Ore.; Dr. H.E. Douglass, Chico, Cal.; Charles R. Douglass, Villasenor, Mexico, and Arthur R. Douglass, Chariton, Iowa.

Funeral of Mrs. Douglass.
Mrs. Thomas Auld of Denver, Colorado, a sister of Dr. H.E. Douglass, arrived last evening to attend the funeral of their mother, Mrs. Mary Alexander Douglass. Another daughter, Miss Sylvia Douglass, arrived Wednesday evening from Oregon. The arrangements for the funeral are still incomplete, depending upon the arrival of two sons from the east. At present it is thought that the services will be held next Sunday afternoon.
