This is definitely not the tombstone for Charles W Alexander of Cabarrus Co, NC. The Charles W Alexander of Cabarrus Co was born before 1850. The Charles Alexander buried in VA was born in 1853/1854. There is a Virginia death certificate for the Virginia Charles Alexander which lists his parents. The family is located in the Augusta VA census in 1860 and 1870 with the same parents who were listed on the Charles Alexander of Virginia death certificate.
