Biography

James was born in December 1855 in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire [1] . His parents were George Alexander and Mary (McBain) Alexander, both from small hamlets in Aberdeenshire. James was born in Inverurie, the site of a small battle during the Jacobite rising in 1745.

James married Jessie Yule Jessie Henry (Yule) Alexander in October 1875 at Wilton, Roxborough[2] which is almost 200 miles south of his birth town of Inverurie. James and Jessie had eleven children, all of whom were born in Hawick or Wilton, small villages either side of the Teviot River no more than twenty miles north of the Scotland/England border.

James died at Hawick in [3]1931, two years after his wife, Jessie had died in the same village.
