Fred E. Alexander was my father, results provided by DNA test on me at 23andme and Gedmatch Kit #694349. I have Alexander cousins that matches my Father's Alexander and Graham family on Gedmatch, but are not on Wikitree.
Fred was born in DeKalb, Bowie County, Texas and lived in Bowie County Texas in 1900 with his parents. He was 1 year old at that time. He was very close to his younger sister, Willie Mae born n 1901, who was less than two years younger. Willie was 9 years old and was very ill with consumption (according to my father). Consumption was a wasting disease, pulmonary disease, probably TB. She died in 1910. He was very distressed, which is understandable for a young boy.
Fred's second sister, ZELMA, was born in 1903. At the age of 9 years, she also died with the same disease that Willie died from, consumption. When she also died, my dad had a nervous breakdown and spent many days in deep depression. Throughout my dad's life he broke down and cried every time Willie and ZELMA was mentioned. When I was in the fourth grade he told me about them as tears rolled down his cheeks. That was the first time I had ever seen him cry.
Dad was a strong man, tall but thin. He had black hair and dark blue eyes. A very popular young man is what my aunt told me. He always wore a hat and had a pretty white horse when a young man. He met my mother through one of her brothers, probably uncle Arthur or uncle Henry. He farmed during his younger life, but in my lifetime he was a carpenter and painter. He built the house that I grew up in without any modern tools, only hammer, nails, hand saw, and T square. Mother was his "gofer" and helper in that endeavor.
I was in 10th grade when I won an oil painting scholarship, but I knew my family was just making ends meet so I thought there was no possibility of accepting it. When I went home and told daddy of the honor, he said, "of course you will accept it!". He made a deal with an old family friend, Mrs. B. F. Hodges, to work off $400 to buy the paints, brushes, canvas, etc. He did her yards and handy work until it was paid back. Daddy and mother were both so very supportive in whatever interests my sister and I had.
When I was in college, daddy had heart and pulmonary disease, and at the age of 68 on January 20 1968 he died. He was a wonderful father, never raising his voice to me but always gentle and loving to his family.

It seems daddy still made a hit with mother, because she married him when she was 17 years old. And grandfather liked him and respected him. Maybe daddy repaired that fence very well.
He moved his little family around a bit and he farmed, and like his dad, hunted and fished when could. By the time I was born in the early 40s my family had moved from Bowie County Texas to Foard County Texas, and then on to West Texas. They had a hard life during the Depression days. Mother worked at many things, and daddy farmed and they both worked the fields. In the 1930s they landed in Lubbock county Tx where daddy and mother built their home. It was a small house when I was born, but they added rooms as they could. They put back money until they had enough to build a room. Then they went to the lumber yard and got the supplies. Mother and daddy built that house, adding a room at a time, with their own hands. Uncle Henry, mother's brother, with daddys help, put in all the plumbing.
As years went by, they made many improvements. I had a happy and good life there with mother, daddy, my sister and uncle Henry. When daddy was 68 years old he died of a heart attack. It happened 3 months before their 48th anniversary. He was buried in Idalou Cemetery in Idalou, Texas. Daddy was caring man; he and mother taught me with gentle touch and loving and honorable examples.
