William was born in 1829. He was the son of William Alexander and Mary Parsley. He married Judith Burnette. In the 1860 census, he is listed as a slave owner in St. Paul's Parish, Hanover, Virginia, United States.[1]
He served in the 15th Regiment, Virginia Infantry in the U.S. Civil War for the Confederacy.[2] His muster date was 23 Apr 1861 and was injured in 30 Jul 1861 with nephritis. He mustered out date was on 14 Oct. 1861. [3]
He died on 4 May 1904 and was buried in Alexanders Corner, Hanover County, Virginia, United States.[4] In his wife's 1911 pension application, the cause of his death is listed as pneumonia. [5] He is in a directory of these buried in the Alexander Family Cemetery.[6]
