On a muster roll for September and October 1863, Travis is marked as "Absent Sick - Sent to interior hospital April 27, 1863.

Travis was discharged on May 13, 1863. There is no reason given but likely has to do with the illness that had him in the hospital.

In the 1850 census, Travis (age 24) and Frances (19) were living in McClendon, St. Clair, Alabama. They had a one-year-old son, James. Travis was a farmer.[6]

In the 1870 census Travis (age 46) was the head of household in Election Precinct 5 Slate, St. Clair, Alabama. He and Francis had eight children in the household and were farming. [8]

Death / Burial
