Matthew was born in 1845. He was the son of Joseph Alford and Sarah Bodey. Matthew Alford married Mary Ann Hepburn Hiethersay in 1880.[1] Matthew Alford purchased land in the Hundred of Coglin in the first sale on 23 March 1880. He is listed in the South Australian Directory of 1887 as being a farmer in the area.[2] He passed away in 1937 and was buried in West Terrace Cemetery.[3][4]
