Samuel Alford was born in Gillingham, Dorset, England.
Samuel was born at Gillingham, Dorset on 5 November 1824 and baptised by the Wesleyan church on 5 December 1824. [1][2] He was eldest of four children of William Alford and Martha Ellen. His father was a shoemaker.
At the 1841 census Samuel was living with his family in a back street off St Martins Square, Gillingham, Dorset. [3]
Samuel married Hannah Jane Toop on 10 February 1850 at the church of St John the Evangelist, Upper Holloway, Islington, England [4][5] Samuel's sister Mary Ellen was a witness. One child of the marriage is known. Martha (Alford) Davies was born in London in the last quarter of 1850 and died in Victoria, Australia in 1940.
At the 1851 census Samuel, Hannah and Martha are living 4 Caroline Place, Chelsea. Samuel is working for London City Missionary[6]
From 1874 Samuel is living at 141 Ann St, Plumstead, London. [7] In 1882 Samuel moved to 15 Pattison Rd, Woolwich [8] renumbered to 16½ Pattison Rd in 1884 where he lived until at least 1893. [9][10][11][12][13]
Samuel died in London in the first quarter of 1901. [14]
