Mary Alford (married name Shingles) was born on 13 May 1856 in Tarraville, Victoria, Australia. She is the daughter of Phoebe (Stokes) Alford and John Alford. ^[1]

She married Frederick James Shingles on 5 May 1881 in Maffra, Victoria. ^[2]
