Frances Agnes Alfrey was born in 1877, the daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth Alfrey. She was a tall, lively woman of great good humour.
In the 1900 New Zealand, Electoral Rolls (1853-1981) Francis Agnes Alfrey was recorded living at 415 South Belt, Christchurch, Canterbury, occupation "domestic duties".
On 11 April 1906 at Christchurch, Frances married William Frederick "Fred" Alexander.
Their only child, Frances Elizabeth Alexander, was born in Timaru in 1916.
In 1907 Frances and her husband Fred moved to Wellington where Fred had been appointed newspaper editor of a new conservative daily, the Dominion. Three years later he was appointed editor of the Timaru Herald.
In the 1919 New Zealand, Electoral Rolls (1853-1981) Francis Agnes Alexander was recorded living at Selwyn Street, Timaru with her husband William Frederick Alexander who was the editor of the Herald.
Her husband Fred retired in 1946, but continued to contribute articles and reviews to the Star. He wrote and edited that paper's Otago centennial supplement in 1948. He died in Dunedin Hospital after a lengthy illness on 14 August 1957, survived by Frances and their daughter Frances.
Frances passed away on 19 October 1962 at the age of 85 and was cremated on 20 October 1962. Her ashes were scattered[1].
