Harriet was born in New York in 1826.[1] She married Lafayette Root by 1847, when their eldest child was born.[1] She and Lafayette had at least four children by 1870, when they appear in the U.S. Census for that year, living in New York.[2] There are six children linked to her Find A Grave memorial:[3] Helen, d. 1859, Ellen, d. 1964, Melville, b. 1847, d. 1903, Adelbert, b. 1852, d. 1911, Clinton, b. 1854, d. 1924, and William Emmet, b. 1865, died 1924. Harriet died in New York in 1902 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Otsego, New York.[3]
