Biography

My maternal granddfather died before I was born. so unfortunately I never knew him. However, he's remembered with affection by my mother and brought to life by her memories. Another kind, gentle and loving man. Unfortunately, he only fathered one child because he was kicked by a horse after my mother was born and was then unable to father any more children. My mother was only 15 when her father died. Although his Marriage Certificate states his occupation as farmer, he never had his own farm, working first for his father William Alker on Mellings Farm, and later for his relative John who had Chapel Street Farm, both in Pemberton.

I have his Birth Certificate. Home address given: Melling's Farm, Pemberton, Lancs. I also have his original Marriage Certificate Entry no 110, St John's Church, Pemberton. Lancs. Home address given: Mellings Farm, Pemberton, Lancs, Occupation: farmer. I also have his Death Certificate which states he died of a stroke.
