Mary, or Maria, Allan was born in 1788, the daughter of James Allan, Esq. and Elizabeth Colvin, then of Alloa, Clackmannanshire (later of Hall, near Denny in the parish of Dunipace, Stirlingshire).[1][2][3]
She married Thomas Spottiswood, Esq. in July, 1806, in Bengal, India.[4]
Maria Spottiswoode, née Allan, died on the 11th January 1808 in Calcutta, aged nineteen years.[2][3][5]
Research note
While the name, "Elizabeth," was inscribed as the young, widowed wife of Thomas Spottiswoode, Esq. on the Spottiswoode family monument in Dunipace cemetery, the burial and inscription records in Calcutta clearly state the name, Maria.
