1860 census: Utica, Oneida Co, NY Moses Allen b. 1822 IR Frank Allen b. 1855 NY they are on page 85.

1870 census: Utica, NY with wife and kids He was wealthy. He had a MACHINE SHOP. He stated his realestate was valued at 6,000 $ and his personal property at 5,000. Most of the neighbors were in hundreds, not thousands.

Exerpt from the obit of Daniel H. Steele, who died 1926 Herkimer, NY, age 84. On his return to Ilion, Mr. Steele went to work in the Remington Agricultural Works, making agricultural implements. He also worked as blacksmith and in doing forge work in the Ilion Armory during the time when it had large contracts for rifles for the Egyptian and French governments. He also worked for a time for Moses Allen of Utica, and for Wheeler's Foundry in Utica, making frog joints for the Utica and Black River Railroad.

Utica Morning Herald and Daily Gazette: Thurs May 16. 1878: Death of Moses Allan, yesterday at 2 am. One of the best and well known master Mechanics in Central New York. Died at his home in the city aged 56. He had been an invalid for some time. Native of County Derry, Ireland. Had lived in Utica since boyhood. Was an apprentice with Spencer and Rogers at their Willowvale shpops. Became one of their most trustworthy mechanics. For 10 yrs he was foreman of the machine shops of the Utica and Schenectady Rail Road. Later he built extensive machine shop on Liberty Street. His business delined. As a master maechanic and practical mechanical engineer Moses Allan has few if any superiors. He was the inventor of the locomotive Jack-Screw, and other usefull appliances. He was married to Miss Catherine Campbell of Utica in 1839. She survives him with 5 children.: Mrs. Mary jackson of Marcelius, Ill. Frank Allan and Misses Sarah, Ida, and Kittie of the city. Moses Allan had many friends.

Utica NY Morning Herald: Nov 7, 1877: Moses Allan dangerously ill with Typhoid.

May 11, 1877: George Scranton and Moses Allan went fishing to Jock's Lake, North Woods.

Oct. 21, 1875: The Grace Church Spire and cross were made by Moses Allan, Utica.

May 10, 1871: Moses Allan announces he is working on hius own.

1870: Moses Allan invented the Giant Drill Machine and Fire Pump.
