George was born on 21 May 1849 at Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland and baptised in East Parish, Greenock [1]. He was the son of George Allan and Jessie Torrance.
In 1851 he was living with his parents, George (an iron manufacturer aged 40) and Jessie (28), his two siblings - Jane T (3) and Mary (4 months) - and two female servants at Ratho Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire[2]. He was aged 1. In 1861 he had eight siblings - Jane Torrance (13), Mary (10), Jessie (9), William Torrance (7), Margaret Muir (6), Elizabeth (3), James (2) and Isabella (10 months) - and there were now three female domestic servants to look after them all at Ratho Street, Oakfield West, Greenock, Renfrewshire[3]. He was a scholar aged 11.
Nothing more is known about George.
In 1871 he was possibly boarding in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, but this has yet to be confirmed. A George Allan born in Scotland was boarding with the Morgan family[4]. He was an engine fitter at the works aged 22 born in Scotland.
He has not been found in the 1881 Census on Find My Past in spite of checking every George Allan born around 1849.
There are a very large number of George Allans who died in England, so his death has not been found.
