Maturin Allard was a Huguenot.

Biography

This appears to be the Huguenot ancestor. See Oxford MA and Woodstock CT. According to unverified online info, came to America by 1680, first to Roxbury MA, then to Oxford. Ca 1695 removed to Woodstock CT. Gabriel Bernon, a merchant of La Rochelle, was the president of the plantation at Oxford MA, benefitting fellow Huguenots. Other unverified online info has Matturin coming with Bernon aboard the Dolphin in 1688, following the Edict of Fontainebleau (Revocation of the Edict of Nantes).[1] Indian massacre in 1696 sent many to Woodstock CT, where there was a garrison.

The early records show that this family lost children in Indian raids. This may have been the main reason for this family's removal to Woodstock CT.

My grandmother had a wonderful family story about him, the accuracy of which I cannot prove. She said he came from France with blond hair and a violin. Adams-21565 14:58, 20 January 2016 (EST)

See Gabriel Bernon, Bernon-7.
