Biography
James Allardyce was born in Scotland.
James Bain Allardyce was born on 30 April 1869 in Elgin, Morayshire, Scotland.[1]
James was the fifth of six children living with their parents, George and Margaret, shown in the 1871 census. Their address was 95 High Street, Elgin, Morayshire, Scotland.
[2]
The 1881 census records James as an 11-year-old scholar living with his parents and seven siblings in Knockando, Moray, Scotland.
[3]
James was married to Mary Forsyth during the third quarter of 1897 in Whitehaven, Cumberland, England.
[4]
The 1901 census recorded James, a tailor's cutter, living in Bootham, York, Yorkshire, England together with his wife, Mary, and brother-in-law John Forsyth, a commercial clerk. At his time his father, George, was a tailor in Scotland.
[5]
James and Mary (who may also have been known as Margaret) had four children, the first two sons of whom died in infancy: James (1899-1899)
[6][7] and Arthur Forsyth (1900-1900).
[8][9] Their daughter Florence Mary was born 9 Jun 1902 in York
[10] and died in 1951 in Maidenstone. Their son Edward James was born in 1905 in Dublin South.
[11]
Edward James died 6 May 1984 in Lewes, Sussex.
[12]
In 1915 James was living at 6 Hallewell Road, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. According to the Electoral Registers he was at the same address in 1920.
[13][14]
In 1918 it seems James, then aged 50, got into a bit of a spat with Ada Gertrude Tebbett and was subsequently charged with indecent assault. However, he was found not guilty and discharged.
[15]
In 1923, at the time of his mother's death in Archiestown, Knockando, Scotland, James was living at 2 Guilford Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. James and his older brother George were Executors of their mother's will.
[16]
James died in October 1933 in Kent, England; probate was granted to his wife on 18 November 1933.
