George married twice. His first marriage was to Ethel May Blatchford. His second wife was Mary McKellar Davie, of Timaru, who he married in 1909. He had one son - William John Allen - with his wife Ethel May (May), and the rest of his children were with his wife Mary.
During his life he became well known as an expert on Romney Marsh sheep and was a judge and inspector for the New Zealand Romney & Marsh Breeders Association. He was judge at many A&P shows for the Romney Marsh section. He was a Councillor and held many committee positions over the years. He subscribed to the National Party, was Anglican, and was a Freemason. His residence, his sheep-breeding property, was "Tipua" in Masterton.
He passed away in 1962 at the age of 86. He was buried in Clareville Cemetery in Carterton. [2]
