Biography

John Allen III, son of John II and Phebe Scarlett Cox Allen, was born March 22 1749 in Chester, Pa and died September 23 1826 in Snow Camp, Orange County, NC.[1] He married Rachel Stout, daughter of Peter and Margaret Cypert Stout, April 9 1779 in Orange County, NC. He was a teacher and was honored for his contributions with a large stone tombstone in 1926.[2] He also ran a store in one room of his small home, said to have gone to Philadephia, PA for supplies twice a year and had books in his home that named early settlers in the area. The books are now in the Archives of in Raleigh, NC and the large home he built was restored and moved to the Alamance Battlefield, NC. More about the home and his life may be found here.[3][4]
