Ethan Allen was the son of American Revolutionary War leader, Ethan Allen, and his second wife Frances Montresor Buchanan Allen.

Ethan Allen was a cadet at West Point from Dec 1804 to Nov 1806.
When he graduated he was commissioned as a 2lt, regiment of artillerists.
He served in Atlantic posts and on the N.W. frontier.
He was promoted to 1lt in 1809.
In the war of 1812 he was at Norfolk and Craney island, and On Lake Champlain.
He was promoted to Captain, Corps of Artillery in 1814.
In command of Craney Island, Va. From 1815 to 1821.
Supertindent of Regimental recruiting service from 1818 to 1820.
He got out of the Army in 1821.
His cullum number is 22.
