Obituary

Sammie Calloway Allen, 65, a resident of this city for the past 13 years,died at his home on Stafford Street Friday, February 5, 1954 following an illness of two years. Death attributed to a brain tumor.
Born January 15, 1889 at Arthurmabel, KY. he was the son of Simon and Lorina Joseph Allen.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church. He was an oil and gaspromoter in Eastern Kentucky prior to his illness.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Ditty Allen and two daughters, Barbara and Linda, both of this city.
Other survivors include three sons,Theodore Allen, Garrison, KY. Sammie Allen Jr., city, Woodrow Allen,Garden City, Michigan, two daughters, Phinetta Pickins, Garden City,Michigan and Rhena Jane Swinney, Greenville, KY., all children by a former marriage.
Also surviving are two brothers, Sy Allen, Royalton, KY. and Byrd Allen,Parma, Mich., four sisters Oda Rowe, Arthurmabel, KY., Cassie Waddle,Kenton, Ohio., and Susan Howard, Argylite, KY.
Active pallbearers were Mike Kocio, Fred White, Elmer Lyons, M.D. Bailey,Bill Bailey, Oscar Williams Jr., Carl Leslie, Jess Boyd and Gelain Baldridge. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men's Bible Class of the First Methodist Church. Funeral Services were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Methodist Church, Rev.W.F.Pettus officiating.
Burial was made in the Preston Cemetery under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home.
