Biography

Lucy Catherine Matilda Jane Allen was born in April of 1868 in Patrick County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Creed G. Allen and Nancy Elizabeth (Martin) Allen and she is listed with her parents on both: the 1870 Census (in Little River, Floyd, Virginia)^[1] and the 1880 Census (in Smiths River, Patrick, Virginia).^[2] Based on the data provided in the census reports; she had at least three siblings: Statira Ann Allen, Victoria Elizabeth "Bettie" Allen, and Nathan Wade Jefferson Allen.

On January 12, 1882 she married Peyton Gabriel Bowling (1861–1943) in Patrick County, Virginia.^[3] The couple are listed together on the following census reports:

• 1910 Census (with three children and her mother in their household)^[5]
• 1920 Census (with two sons in their home)^[6]
• 1930 Census (with their son Clyde, his wife, two grandchildren, Lucy's uncle and four boarders in the residence)^[7]

Lucy passed away in February of 1941 at the age of 72 in Buffalo Ridge, Patrick, Virginia^[8] and both of her parents are listed on her death certificate. She is buried in the Allen-Bowling-Cruise Cemetery in Cruzes Store, Patrick County, Virginia.^[9]
