Biography

When Martha Allen was born on December 25, 1728, in Enfield, Connecticut, her father, Azariah, was 27, and her mother, Martha, was 21. She died on February 8, 1788, in New Hartford, Connecticut, at the age of 59, and was buried there.

Marriage

Her 1st marriage was to David Chapin, October 5, 1749 and they had eight children together. 2nd marriage was to Joseph Merrill, February 16, 1769, and they had two children together.

They had eight child recorded at New Hartford, Conn. before David's death Sept. 15, 1762 during a military campaign at Havana, Cuba (surname Chapin): Abigail, Hannah, Martha, Sabary, Loru Hannah, Phineas, Rachel and David.

On Feb. 16, 1769 of record at New Hartford, Conn., Martha m. 2) as his 3rd wife, Joseph Merrill, s. of Abraham Merrill and Prudence Kellogg, b. Mar. 28, 1707 at Hartford, Conn. He d. Oct. 13, 1788 at New Hartford (g.s.). They had one child, son Michael Humphrey.
