Biography

Charles Carlos Allen was born Feb 9, between 1886 and 1888. Charles biological father was Sherman Spurlock. Sherman and Charles' mother never married and Charles kept his mother's maiden name, Allen. The year 1900 census supports this narrative showing he was living with his Grandparents James and Elizabeth Allen.

Charles' mother was a daughter of James and Elizabeth Jones Allen. It is not known, at this time, which daughter was his mother.

On December 30, 1909, Charles married Laura May Havens, daughter of William Jackson Havens and Mary Gilley Havens.

Charles and Laura had seven children together,George H. Allen 1912-2002, Stanley S Allen 1914-1996, Raymond Frederick Allen 1919-1952, William H Allen ( My Grandfather) 1921-1995, Mamie Lilly Allen 1923-2007, Beulah Mae Allen 1925-2017 and Mary E. Allen 1929-2019 Charles died on July 2, 1947 and was buried on July 5, 1947 in Woodside Cemetery in Middletown Ohio.

Sources are uncommonly variant for his actual birthdate. His draft cards and other sources show a DOB as Feb 9, 1886 and yet the 1900 census shows that he was 12 years old in 1900, If the actual DOB was 1886 he would have been 14 in 1900. A newspaper article from The Dayton Daily News, dated July 4, 1947 ,has his age at the time of death as 59 years old which would actually place his birth year at 1888 and not 1886. Need more clarification, but at this time, the evidence is pointing to an actual birthdate of 1888.

The reverse side of Charles Allen's WWI photo indicates that he changed his middle name from Adam to Carlos. It did not indicate when.

Point of interest: Charles's wife, Laura May Havens, is also the step-daughter of Rhoda Allen. Rhoda married Jack Havens after the death of his first wife, Mary Gilley who is Laura May's biological mother.

Charles Allen's son, Stanley Allen is my grandfather Randall Roberts

I merged the Two redundant persons for my Great Grandfather Charles Allen to one person and edited the bio, If you see any mistakes please let me know.
Allen-45410 and Allen-22820 appear to represent the same person because: Both records refer to the same Charles Allen, my great-grandfather and father of Stanley Allen, my grandfather. Allen-22820 was created by my 2nd cousin, Sandy Allen. Allen-45410 was created by my 2nd cousin, William Allen-Spurlock. I'm the third 2nd cousin and I tied my branch of the tree to Allen-22820. I want to work with William to add all descendants to Charles's record.

Allen-45416 and Allen-45410 appear to represent the same person because: These are duplicate records. I created Allen-4510, but Allen-4516 was also added. They are the same person.

Charles' biological father is Sherman Spurlock. Sherman and Charles' mother never married so Charles kept his mother's maiden name, Allen.

Charles' mother was a daughter of James Allen (LBSF-B2R) and Elizabeth Jones Allen (LTPR-WXH). As of yet, It is not known which daughter. However, Nancy Jane, and Rose are likely candidates because of their ages.

Family lore is that Charles was raised by his grandparents. The 1900 census supports this narrative as he was living with his grandparents, James and Elizabeth Allen, at 12 years old.

in 1896, Charles' aunt, Rhoda Allen Ingram (LBSF-B2R), married William Jackson Havens (L8G4-N66).

in 1909, Charles married Rhoda's step-daughter, Laura May Havens, daughter of William Jackson Havens and Mary Gilley Havens.

It's quite possible that Charles met Laura May because of his aunt's connection to the Havens family.

I'm still trying to find out which of James and Elizabeth's daughters is Charles' mother. Has anyone found a record of Charles' birth?
