Biography

Zachariah Allen was born some time around 1730, judging from his marriage to Elizabeth Law (around 1748-50) and the birth of his first child, William in about 1750. Evidence indicates that they moved from South Farnham Parish, Essex, Virginia, to St. Thomas Parish, Orange, Virginia in about 1750. The family lived in the tithe district described as "south side North Fork North Anna up Mountain Road to county line”. Just before 1770 the Allen family moved to Botetourt, Virginia and settled in the area of present-day Roanoke.
