Margaret Allen was born to William Allen and Ann Jane Strothers about29 March 1859, in Ireland [1]
Margaret immigrated from Ireland to Australia with her mother Ann Jane, and two siblings, arriving in March 1865, aged 5. They were sponsored by William (her father) who had arrived in Sept 1863, according to the NSW records of assisted passengers. Margaret married Joseph Halliday, [2] and the couple lived in Newcastle.

MRS. MARGARET HALLIDAY

Mrs. Margaret Halliday, who passed away in Newcastle at the age of 85 years, came to the Singleton district as a child, and although she had not resided here since her marriage
she had kept close contact with Singleton district and its activities, and she had a large number of friends here.
The late Mrs. Halliday came out with her parents from Ireland, and embarking from a boat at Morpeth came on to Singleton by bullock waggon, her parents taking employment at Greenwood, at present the home of Mr. A. B. Shaw but at the time occupied by the founder of Jas. Moore and Cos. store, Mr. J. Moore.
She spent her school days here, and left the town upon her marriage.
Surviving sisters are Mrs. A. G. Brady, of York Street, and Mrs. J. Eather, of Munro Street, Two sons and three daughters also survive.

Mrs: Margaret Halliday, Junction, took place to Sandgate cemetery, following a service conducted by Rev W. Fullerton. Born in County Armagh, Ireland, in 1859, Mrs. Halliday came to the colonies in childhood. The family settled at Singleton then in Newcastle, and Mrs. Halliday remained here. A son. Mr. Gordon Halliday, was Assistant District Secretary of the Miners' Federation. Another son, the late Mr. Leslie Halliday, was District Secretary at his death in 1940. The eldest brother, Mr. W. Halliday, is employed in the Postal Department at Newcastle. Daughters are Mesdames R. Gall. H. McLaughlin. and C. Dennis. The Miners' Federation was represented.
