Biography

Jane Allen was in born 1782^[1], she may have been the daughter of Benjamin 'Shy Ben' Allen and Eva Magdalena Somers, however she is 10 years older than the record for their daughter and she married a different man.^{[2] [3]}

Circa 1805, she married Benjamin Read, the son of Eliphalet Read and Sarah Bucklin., and had children in Sackville, NB, including

1. Sarah Read was born in 1806, who married John William Fillmore, son of John Fillmore and Jemima Tingley, on 17 Sep 1822, and who died in 1891 in Illinois^{[4] [5]}
2. Jonas Read, who married Sarah Jane Sterling, daughter of John Stark Sterling and Charlotte Fillmore, on 7 Nov 1848 in Westmorland Co., NB.^[6]
3. Captain Benjamin Read, born Feb. 24, 1814, who married Anna Marie Wells^[7] first, and second Elizabeth Purdy^[8], and who died in 1814^[9]
4. Joshua Read was born 12 March 1816, who married Rebecca Allen in 1841^[10]
5. Cynthia Read was born in 1811, who married William Kay^[11]and died on 2 Apr 1840
6. Rebecca Read, who married David Parrington^[12]
7. Katherine Read, who married George Allen^[13]
8. Eleanor (Ellen or Nelly) Read was born about 1828 and married Joseph Allen^[14]

Jane died 11 March 1854 and was buried in Reade Cemetery, Bayside (Port Elgin RR), Westmorland County, New Brunswick along with her husband. The inscription is reproduced, and photo of his headstone appears on the "Descendents of John Reed" website noted here^[1]
