Biography

Lizzie Quarman Allen was born in Hampstead 1886 [1] and lived there until after 1901 when she was 14 (see entry for her father). It is not very clear what happened to her after that. She was still living with her parents in 1911 [2] but by then had qualified as a teacher so she must have received a good education. By the early 1930s she had moved to Alverstock in Oxfordshire which was near the big RAF air-base at Brize Norton. This base had became a prime target for bombing raids during WW2. Lizzie and her companion (Eleanor B Cowan) moved from there in 1939 to Wincanton in Somerset (The Haven, Dancing Lane) where she spent her remaining days until her death in 1965 [3].
