Biography

1776 Project
Captain Jonathan Allen served with 17th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Revolutionary War officer serving as Captain in Gen. Seth Pomeroy's regiment which marched on April 20, 1775 in response to the alarm of April 19, 1775, and in the regiment of Col. John Fellows. [1] [2] [3]

"Jonathan, for whom my father was named, was a land holder in Northampton, and his trade was that of a house carpenter or joiner. He was appointed a captain by John Hancock, President of Congress, in Col. Rufus Putnam's regiment in 1777, and in 1779, he was promoted by Congress to be major, and his commission was signed by Samuel Huntington, President of the Congress. He bore the reputation of an excellent officer, and served in the army at White Plains, Saratoga and elsewhere in the state of New York. He was accidentally shot while hunting deer in the forest at Northampton in 1780. His widow married Ebenezer Davis of Charleton, an uncle of the late H. G. Davis of this town."[4][5]

"Sacred to the memory of Major Jonathan Allen who was slain as he was hunting on the 7th day of Janr. 1780 having just entered the 43d year of his age the duties of a son a brother an husband a parent & a faithful & brave officer in the continental service were daily discharged by him. He had for many year made a public profession of Christianity & entertained an hope of a resurrection to a glorious immortality which did not leave him in his nearest approach to the other world."

"a soldier in the Revolution; killed Jan 7, 1780, aged 43, by Seth Lyman accidentally, when out hunting together at Northampton."[6]

Allen-18055 and Allen-3673 appear to represent the same person because: Major Jonathan Allen is the son Son of Joseph Allen and Elizabeth (Parsons) Allen. He married Rebeckah Whitmore — married 6 Jul 1763. The sources are all on Allen-3693 and here is a birth record. Birth Record
There seems to be a mix up of two Jonathon Allen. Thebio on this one says his parents were Joseph Allen (1712 - 1779) Elizabeth Parsons Allen (1716 - 1800)

I think we should remove these parents and attach https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Allen-3659 https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Parsons-763

Then merge Allen-3673 into Allen-18055. I'm happy to help!!!

Allen-18055 and Allen-5244 have the same father but not same mother. But they do have the same wife married on the same date. Perhaps one of them did not actually marry her? (editing for date errors . . .)
