Julius was born about 1722. He passed away about 1777.

Julius Allen, Sr. of Henrico County, Virginia was born BY 1722 (calculated from his first legal transaction that I found in Henrico County.) ^[1]

He was the son of Edmund Allen and PERHAPS Mary Allen, Edmund's wife.[I say PERHAPS because I do not have documentation that this was Edmund's only wife.]Julius, Sr. was the brother of (at least) Littleberry, James, and Isham Allen. ^[2]

In 1743 and 1744 Julius, Sr. was a member of Henrico Co. grand jury. On Sep. 20, 1745 Julius Allen patented 400 acres of land in Goochland County on the north branches of Little Guinea Creek (now in Cumberland Co., Va.)near the south side of the road; adj. John Watson, Richard Hubbard, Stephen Mallet and William Tabor.^[3]

In 1746 Julius Allen was again a juror in Henrico County. On July 7, 1746, he was appointed appraiser of Rebecca ALLEN Elmore's estate in Henrico Co.

In July 1746 Julius bought land from Charles and Jane Winfree in Henrico County. "Chas. Winfree of St. Peter's Parish in New Kent County to Julius Allen of Varina [Henrico Co.] 150 acres; 100 acres being the land Nowell Burton sold to Richard Allen, deceased. The other 50 bought by Chas. from Robert Childress."^[4]

1750 Joseph Childress to Julius Allen 40 acres on south side Chickahominy Swamp on Robert Spear's? branch and Bull's branch and dividing line between Childres (sic) and Allen, being part of tract said Childres purchased from Robert Childres, son of Robert Childers (sic), deceased.^[5]

May 7, 1750 - Miles Gathright to Julius Allen 1 & 1/2 acres on s.s.Chick[ahominy] near Fools br. adj. the parcel Julius bo't from Childres.

August 27, 1750 when Josiah Burton sold his Cumberland Co. land, it was bounded by Julius Allen and William Patman's corner, James Daniel (an owner of an ordinary), and the branches of Soakarse Creek and Little Guinea on both sides of Buckingham Road. ^[6]

September 2, 1751, Julius to Isham Allen "for brotherly love" 200 acres on the south side Chick. adj. Valentine Freeman, deceased, Richard Williamson, and Littleberry Allen.Same day- Julius Allen to Littleberry Allen for "brotherly love" 80 acres on the s.s. Chick. adj. Thos. Elmore, Martin Martin and Anthony Matthews. [ See deed in 1753 from Martin Martin to James Allen and then see deed of same from James Allen to Isham Allen...jeb]

1752- Samuel Gathright to Julius Allen 125 acres near Chick Swp. adj. Joseph Childers, Miles Gathright, being the land Samuel purchased of William Matthews.

1756 - Julius Allen acknowledged a deed to Elizabeth Dorton (sic?) for 100 acres adj. Jno. Watson, Matthew Johnson, Valentine Freeman, deceased, and Isham Allen. (see the deed of 50 acres from Edmund and Mary Allen in 1748 to Matthew Johnson "for love and affection" adj. Joseph Watson and Valentine Freeman.^[7]

1757- Julius Allen is a juror and an undersheriff of Henrico County.

1757- Julius Allen rebuilt the bridge over Four Mile Creek and "is to be responsible for its repair for next seven years."

1757-Mary Martin CHOSE Julius Allen as guardian and also he is APPOINTED guardian to Gl___, Judith and Francis, orphans of George Martin. [Researchers interested in the female Allens should check to find out if one married George Martin...jeb.]

1758 Thomas Elmore VS Julius Allen in trespass suit.Julius Allen won. [A Thomas Elmore was the father-in-law of Julius Allen's brother Isham ^[8]

1758 - Julius Allen gets paid for rebuilding Turkey Island Bridge and Four Mile Creek Bridge.

1759 - Julius Allen and John Williamson were recommended to the governor as suitable inspectors for tobacco at Shockoe Warehouse in Henrico Co. (Richmond)

1759 - Joseph Pleasants and John West sold Julius Allen 3 servants given to West by his grandmother Mary Whitlow, widow of John Whitlow, deceased.

1759 - Julius Allen was administrator of father Edmund Allen's estate.He inherited 75 acres over the old road surveyed by his father.

1759- Julius Allen complains of insufficiencies at the Shockoe Tobacco Warehouse.

Nov. 3, 1760 - Isham Allen to Julius Allen 137 & 1/2 acres adj. Julius Allen, Littleberry Allen, Thomas Elmore, and John Watson, being the land he purchased from John Elmore of Lunenburg County, who had inherited it from his grandmother Rebecca Allen Elmore.

1761 - Julius Allen was recommended as tobacco inspector again. August 2, 1762 - William Watson to Julius Allen, 800 acres adj. MATTHEW JOHNSON (remember him?), Elizabeth Dalton (sic), Richard Williamson, and James Valentine, being tract inherited from Watson's grandfather Joseph Watson, deceased. [800 acres orig. grant in two 400 acre tracts to Joseph Watson in 1741. ^[9] [Note from Jean:This is something to think about....had Julius Allen married a Watson widow?Please email me if you find the answer to this....]

1764- Richard Adams VS William Mason and wife Mary..and Julius Allen (Henrico Chancery Court) defendants lose. [no further information]

1764- Jan. 27 Julius Allen grants to William Morris of Henrico co. 123 acres adj. Childres, Miles Gathright and Anthony Matthews, which Julius Allen purchased from Samuel Gathright, Jr. Wit: Christian Allen and MATTHEW JOHNSON. [I have a note that William Morris married Elizabeth Patman BY THE TIME OF THE 1767 will of William Patman, Henrico Co.]

1765 - Julius gets payment from sheriff for his part in building new bridge at Jas. Lewis's and for repairing Bottom's Bridge.

1765- William Freeman - deed to Julius Allen. [no further info.]

1765- Julius Allen is appt. by the HANOVER County, Va. Court to keep Meadow Bridge in repair till a new one can be built.The Henrico Court joins Hanover Court in rebuilding it and Julius is ordered to repair on Hanover's terms.

1766 - Julius Allen petitions the Henrico court for leave (permission) to build a water mill on the Great Branch.

1766- Richard Williamson et al, appointed to examine Julius Allen's accounts of his ward's estate.[no mention of names of wards.]

1766 - On Julius Allen's motion to build a grist mill on Great Swamp in Henrico, the land on both sides being his own, the jury composed of Richard Williamson, James Valentine et al say "yes" and that he will have about four acres valued at four pounds - the property of Thomas Elmore, who will also sustain a loss of three pounds,ten [shillings?], for timber. [I suppose they are valuing the amount of loss to each land owner from the building of the mill..and then that amount was paid to the landowner.]

1767 - Julius Allen is appointed to inspect a roadway petitioned for New Bridge on Chick. Swp. to Redford's Ferry.

1767- Julius is appointed under-sheriff to Benjamin Duval.

1767 - Julius Allen is administrator of Christian Allen's estate.

March 3, 1768 - John Raglin, heir to brother Gidian Raglin, deceased's estate...trades land with Julius Allen.

1768 - Agreement between John Ragland and Julius Allen - deed from Julius Allen to John Ragland.

1768 - Julius Allen repaired the prison, Meadow Bridge, and rebuilt Shockoe bridge.

1768- Julius is given more time to render the account of his ward's estate. [no mention of name of ward.]

1768- a Julius Allen of Henrico County married Mary Biggar of Hanover County Oct. 11, 1768. [I do NOT know which Julius Allen this is...Sr. or Jr.](continued next posting on Julius Allen, Sr.)
