Catherine was born April 23, 1874 at Hallsworthy in the parish of Davidstow, Cornwall.[1]. She was baptised June 16, 1874 in Davidstow.[2] She is the daughter of Samuel Allen and Sarah Jenkin.
Her mother died in August 1878 and the following year her father Samuel went to Fannin county, Texas to stay with his brother William Nethaway Allen.
As a result of this, in the 1881 Census, her brothers John and Henry and younger sister Marley are with their paternal grandparents John and Elizabeth Allen in Laneast Cornwall. Philippa Hobbs age 30 is in the household working, possibly as a governess.[3]
At the same time. Catherine is with her maternal grandparents Henry and Catherine Jenkin in Tregeare Village in the parish of Egloskerry.[4]
She married John Curnow in 1898 in Falmouth Registration District, Cornwall.[5]
