Robert was born on 23 July 1821. He was the son of Joseph Allen and Nancy Steel. Robert married Mary Gilliland on 21 May 1846. Together they had 5 sons.
He passed away after 1900 (Robert was living with son Andrew in Fennimore, Grant, Wisconsin in 1900[1]), but was not included in the 1910 Census.
