Richard Churchwell Allen was born on January 13,1884 in Milltown, Chambers County, Alabama, United States. He was the son of Charles Allen and Mary Cox Allen.[1][2]
In the 1900 U. S. Census (25 June 1900) the family of Charles Allen was still in Milltown, Alabama. Charles was a forty-seven year old farmer. He and Mary had been married twenty years. There were three children living in the household. Dora (Eldora) Allen age 17; Richard Allen age 16 and Wesley Allen age 13.[3]
His father, Charles Allen, died on November 16, 1907 in Chambers County, Alabama, United States. He was buried at Allen Cemetery in Milltown, Chambers County, Alabama, United States.[4]
Richard married Kittora Fant (Willoughby?) on May 26, 1907 in Chambers County, Alabama, United States.[5]
In the 1910 U. S. Census (April 27, 1910) Richard was twenty-five and Kittora was twenty-two. Richard was farming on a farm owned without a mortgage. Kittora was listed as a farm laborer. They had two children.[6]
On September 12, 1918 Richard Churchwell Allen registered for the World War I draft. The family had relocated to Bessemer, Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. Richard was a self-employed merchant. Both his residence and business address was RFD#1 in Bessemer. Richard was described as medium height and build with blue eyes and black hair.[7]
In the 1930 U. S. Census (11 April 1930) the Richard and Kittora lived in part of precinct 33 in Jefferson County, Alabama. Richard was forty six and the proprietor of a grocery store. Their son Richard Churchwell Allen, Jr., age 6 was the only child in the household.[8]
In the 1940 U. S. Census (9 May 1940) the family lived in Precinct 33 in rural Jefferson County, Alabama. Richard was fifty-six years old and was the owner, operator of a grocery store. He owned his home which was valued at $2500. Both Kittoria and sixteen year old Richard, Jr. worked as clerks in the store.[9]
Richard died on July 18, 1943 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. He was buried at the Allen Cemetery in Milltown, Chambers County, Alabama.[1] A death announcement appeared in The Birmingham News on July 19, 1943. Mentioned in the announcement were his wife Kittora, three sons, a brother and sister surviving.[10]
