Biography

Sarah Elizabeth Allen was born on June 18, 1869 in Doddridge, West Virginia was the daughter of Francis Marion Allen (1848-1911) and Rachel (Talkington) Allen (1848-1934). She grew up in McClellan, West Virginia[1][2] along with fourteen siblings; Homer P Allen (1868-1953), Mary J Allen (1870-1879), Reuben Ellis Allen (1872-1949), John Thomas Allen (1873-1929), Frank Allen (1878-1904), Lloyd E Allen (1880-1967), Floyd Ellsworth Allen (1880-1967), Stoey Curtis Allen (1882-1976), Francis Guy Allen (1884-1969), Icy Allen (1885-), Isaac Oscar Allen (1887-1900), Clee Allen (1888-1974), James B Allen (1891-1922) and Claud Ray Allen (1893-1984).

Sarah married William Henry Boyce May 10, 1890 and they made their home in McClellan, West Virginia[3] and McElroy, West Virginia[4][5][6] until his death September 12, 1940.[7][8] William provided for his family as a farmer and a carpenter. Together they raised seven children; David Marshall Boyce,[9][10][11][12][13][14] John Lawrence Boyce, Ernest Marion Boyce, Frank Henry Boyce,[15] Gladys Marie Boyce,[16][17][18] Walter Raymond Boyce[19][20] and Wanda Vasta Boyce. Sarah died on March 13, 1947 in Wheeling, West Virginia, aged 77[21][22] and is buried in Shirley United Methodist Church Cemetery, Shirley, West Virginia.[23]
