Biography

Joseph was born in the United Kingdom 6 January 1808.

Joseph married Amelia Overton circa 1825. Amelia and Joseph had four children in England.

  • Elizabeth born 13 March 1840,
  • Thomas John born 1826,
  • John born 1828 and
  • Charles born 1831.

Amelia passed away on 26 May 1852 in Chelsea, London on 1852.

Amelia was interred in St. Lukes Graveyard Chelsea, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Greater London, England on 31 May 1852. [1]

Joseph remarried - Frances Garnish Guest. Frances had three children.

Willlam born 1843, Mary Ann born 1848 and Henry Alfred born 1851.

Western Australia Joseph, Elizabeth and Frances and her three children emigrated to the Colony of Western Australia on board the ship Clara arriving on 3 September 1853. The Clara carried a human cargo of 48 married couples with their children numbering 101 and 124 single females. [2][3]

Joseph’s older boys remained in England.

Joseph was a boot and shoe maker he was employed as a Night Warder at the Convict Establishment on 10 January 1854. The working conditions didn’t suit Joseph he was dismissed he received remuneration to 9 April 1854. [4]

Clara was born in 1853 in Perth and Louisa was born in 1856 in Fremantle.

Joseph died on 5 September 1860 in the Colonial Hospital Perth he was 52 years old.[5]

Joseph was interred in the East Perth Cemetery on 6 September 1860. [6][7]

Francis remarried Joseph George Le Sage.
