Biography

[1]

According to his son Elijah's death certificate, Ezra was born in New York. At some point he traveled to Kentucky, as that is where Elijah was born in 1843 to Katherine Lovel of Scotland.

There is an Ezra ALLEN in the 1830 US Census in Brown County, OH and an Ezra ALLIN in the 1840 US Census for Greenup, KY. Once we get to 1850, Ezra seems to have vanished.

There is a marriage record for an Ezra ALLEN and a Nancy CURLESS in Brown County, Ohio in 1822. I believe the Sarah (1825) and Edward (1826) may be offspring of this marriage and that Ezra's marriage to Katherine came after Nancy's death, starting a new line of ALLEN offspring: William (1839), Reason (1840), Elijah (1843), and John (1844).

Did Ezra and Katherine die sometime between 1844-1850? I've read cholera was quite common at the time in the area.

Elijah, my 2x great grandfather, looks to be living with a Samuel CRAMER/CRAMAR family in the 1850 US Census in Brown County, Ohio.

Reason ALLEN is living nearby with Samuel's brother, Benjamin CRAMER.

Edward ALLEN and William ALLEN are living with Sarah (ALLEN) MITCHELL.

John ALLEN is living with Benjamin CRAMER's son, Samuel CRAMER.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ezra by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ezra:

Allen-18371 and Allen-7866 appear to represent the same person because: Dates match. Son Elijah Allen and granddaughter Fannie Allen Marsh are clearly the same people.
