Biography

Year of birth est. from 1851 census. A mason per marriage records. Speculative builder in 1881.

1871 census shows a new wife, Isabella from Hoxton age 47. She doesn't survive as far as the 1881 census though and there is no record of a marriage or a death that I can find.

Transcript of marriage record from Westwood with Iford states; ' Charles is a mason, son of Daniel WINDOW Mary is dau of Daniel'. Unfortunately this is an index only record which means that it is not possible to check the exact context of this statement but his adoption of the name Windo as a second forename in later life makes it pretty certain that Daniel Windo was his father and his mother's surname was presumably Allen. There is a family by the very unusual name of Windo in Westwood at the time of the 1851 census and the head of that family is a mason. What adds more weight to this is that in the census they are living next to the family of Daniel Gingell whose daughter Charles had married.

I have recorded the baptismal record of a child baptised in St. James Parish, Bath born 22 November 1818 as this seems to fit the bill quite closely. The mother's name was Mary Allen and the child is recorded as being illegitimate.

Resident in Gloucester at the time of the 1861 census is a Daniel Windo from Westwood born 1802 or 1803. Very young but it is possible...

Latterly became a speculative builder and quite comfortably off, leaving a total of £1,137 in his will.
