Biography

Joseph Alley was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, on September 7, 1728, the son of Joseph and Hepsaba Alley.[1][2]

Joseph lived in Lynn and was first a fisherman, and later a cordwainer.[1]

On November 12, 1751, he married in Lynn, Rebecca Hall, also of Lynn. Children:[1][3]

  3. Joseph, [1]
  4. John, living in 1785.[1]
  5. Hepzibah, living in 1785.[1]
  6. Lydia, living in 1785.[1]
  7. Rebecca, probably married William Newhall, 4th, of Lynn, January 9, 1791.[1]

The will of Joseph Alley was dated November 1, 1781, and proved November 8, 1783. In the probate court records of "Joseph Alley, cordwainer ... late of Lynn," dated beginning November 3, 1783, are named: "Mrs. Rebecca Alley, Executrix ... Joseph Alley, Solomon Alley, John Alley, Rebeckah Newhall, Ephraim Alley, Nathan Alley."[1][4]
