Update Overview: Rufus Carter Alley was born in 1901 in Gate City, Va, and moved with his family at an early age to Bristol, Va; his father was in the lumber business. Graduating high school in Bristol, Va, Rufus entered pharmacy school at the Medical College of Virginia; after receiving his pharmacy degree, he entered William & Mary College for a year taking necessary courses for medical school entry, and returned to the Medical College of Virginia and earned a medical degree. He entered medical practice in Lexington Ky, where he became a board certified proctologist and surgeon; he spent his entire medical career in Lexington, retiring in 1960. In retirement, he spent most of his time in Florida. During WW II, he served in the US Army Medical Corps; in 1944 - 1945 he commanded a surgical field hospital following behind Gen. Patton's advance across France and Germany, treating soldiers wounded in battle. He was married twice, divorced twice. He passed away in 1991. He maintained a home in Lexington, Ky at least thru 1984. Above confirmed thru genealogical research. LBW
