Ellen Alley was born about 1559 in Flamstead, Hertfordshire, England, daughter of John Alley (1526–1577) and Isabelle Payse (1535–1579).

Ellen (17) married Robert Halsey (24) (born in 1552 in Flamstead; son of Thomas Halsey and Margaret (Unknown) Halsey) on 28 July 1577 in Flamstead. Their children were:

1. Ann Halsey (1591–1659)
2. Thomas Halsey (~1594–1678)

Ellen died after 3 April 1610, aged 50.

Research Notes

According to Donald Halsey at Genforum: Robert's wife was Dorothy, daughter of William Downes, of Linslade, Buckinghamshire. She was buried on September 23, 1620, and her will was proved at St. Albans.^{[citation needed]}

According to R.D. Wheeler's work^[1] on the ancestry of Thomas Halsey of Southampton, Long Island, Ellen was born about 1559, daughter of John Alley alias Cooke and Isabel (last name not certain). No record of her burial or re-marriage has actually been found. It is likely that she moved to the area of Cranfield where 3 of her children (Robert, Ann and Thomas) married Wheelers from 2 different families.

The sources originally cited on this profile seem to be unsourced trees on ancestry.com. No primary source for a burial or death has been found including a supposed 1620 death in Fairfield, CT or elsewhere. The only thing known with certainty is that she was mentioned in her husband's will written 3 Apr 1610 in Hertfordshire.
