Biography

Sir Reynold Abel Alleyne was born on 10 June 1789 at St James, Barbados and baptised on 16 July 1789. He was the son of Sir John Gay Alleyne, 1st Baronet of Four Hills, Barbados, and Jane Abel {nee Alleyne} Alleyne, of St James Parish, Barbados. Her branch of the Alleyne family were very distantly related.
Reynold Abel Alleyne succeeded to the Baronetcy of Four Hills, Barbados, at the age of 12 years, on the death of his father on 7 December, 1801. He also had a older brother who would have been the next Baronet had he lived : John Gay Newton Alleyne who was born in 1787 and died in 1800.

Slave owner

The family residence was Alleynedale Hall (previously called Cabbage Tree Hall), St Peter Parish, Barbados and property was also owned at Bawdens and River Plantation in St. Andrew. In 1824 Sir Reynold Abel Allayne gave evidence in defence of his treatment of the enslaved to a Committee of the Council of Barbados, and submitted compensation claims for the above-named estates [1]

Marriage

He married Rebecca Olton on 20 Sep 1810 at the Harrow Plantation, St Philip Parish, Barbados which was owned by the Olton family. [2]

Death

Sir Reynold Abel Alleyne died in his 81st year at his residence, Nuttal House, Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire, England on the 14th February, 1870 [3]
