Henry Alligood was an older son of Hillery and Dorcas. He served in the Continental Line in North Carolina as a private.[1] Henry was posthumously awarded lands for his service. It is reasonable to assume he died during the war. He was enlisted as early as January, 1778.[2]
Military land warrant number 1350 was issued on 23 February, 1783. On 5 November, 1784, it was ordered that a survey be done for the heir of Henry Allegood (sic), private. The warrant was for 640 acres and was ordered to be “in the line of this State” and “within the limits of the land reserved by law for the office and soldiers of the Continental line of this State”. In other words, the territory that became Tennessee. On 10 December, 1784, in Jones County, NC, Darkis Alligood (sic), mother of Henry Alligood, deceased, made oath that her son Hillery Alligood was the heir at law to her son Henry. Darkis Alligood made her mark. Hillery Alligood was obviously a minor at this time, and his mother was helping to represent his interest in the property.[3]
