William was born in 1905. [1] He was the son of Leo Allinger and Margaret Brunner. His mother died in 1908 when he was 3 years old.
William is listed in the 1930 U.S. Census as a teacher boarding in the Merrell household in Liberty, Tioga, Pennsylvania. [2]
In 1950, he married Marion Cott Swingle. [3]
He passed away in 1991. [4] MR. WILLIAM H. ALLINGER, 85, of Mansfield, died Saturday, June 1, 1991, in Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, following an extended illness. Born in Ridgway, December 12, 1905, he was a son of Leopold and Margaret Brunner Allinger. A 1925 graduate of Ridgway High School, he graduated from the former Mansfield State College and Penn State College. He also attended Clarion Normal School. A member of the National Retired Teacher’s Association, Allinger was a substitute teacher at Mansfield, Liberty and Wellsboro schools and later taught full time at Liberty, Emporium and Strattonville. He served as Dean of Men at Mansfield State College in 1946. He also had worked part time at Van Noys Furniture. He was a member of the Mansfield Area 55 Plus Group serving as publicity chairman. He was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ, Ridgway and attended First Baptist Church. His wife, the former Marion Cott, died June 10, 1984. Surviving are a stepson, Robert Swingle of Mansfield; a stepdaughter, Aliene Strange with whom he lived; four sisters, Margaret Urbancic of St. Mary’s, Grace Devitt of Sarasota, Fla., Julie Levis of Lancaster, Hazel King of El Paso, Texas and a brother, Don Allinger of Appleton, Wis. The funeral was held Tuesday June 4 at Scureman’s, 130 South Main St. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends called Monday, June 3. - Wellsboro Gazette, 5 June 1991, p.12
