Biography

Archibald was born in 1850, Ayrshire. Parents being Robert Allison and Rachel Busbie.

1851 Archibald is only 7 months old and is found with his parents and 8 of his siblings, they are living at Content Street, Wallacetown St Quivox, Ayrshire. Hugh age 19 , Samuel age 17, Robert age 16, John Age 13, all 4 boys are working as Hand Loom Weavers in Cotton , William age 11 birth place Maybole, James age 9 birth place Kirkmichael, Rachel Age 7 birthplace Maybole Ayr, Mary age 3, birthplace Kirkmichael , these 4 children are recorded as attending School ( Scholar) . There is one sibling missing on this census night Jane who would be about 20 years old. [1]

Archibald would barely know his father as he would be about 2 years old but in 1852 his father Robert's Interment is recorded in July, usual residence, Content St, Wallacetown. [2]

1858 William his brother aged 19 years old died in Wallacetown, St Quivox, he was buried at the Newton Churchyard. Archibald would have been about 8 years old when this happend. [3] Robert.

1861 Part of the family are found in the registration district, of St Johns, Glasgow, address being 70 Hill Street, a 2 roomed home. Archibald's mother is a widow at 52 years and working as a thread winder, her 3 remaining children living with her are , James 19, who is working as a Moulder, Mary 13 working in a thread mill, and Archibald who is now 10 years old. Recorded birthplace for all is Kirkmichael, Ayrshire.... Missing from the household is his sister Rachel who is about 18 years old. [4]

1863 His brother James age 21 years marries Agnes McLeod at the Dunchatton Manse , Glasgow. [5]

1867 Archibald's sister Rachel who is 23 years old, living at 110 Duke St, Glasgow, married Alexander Kean in Dennistoun, His other sister Mary is witness for the couple. [6]

1869 Archibald's sister Mary died at the age of 21 years, due to Phthisis, usual residence 110 Duke St. [7]

April 1871 Residence 110 Duke St, Glasgow. Archibald's mother is 63 years old and her occupation is recorded as a housekeeper, birthplace Ireland. Archibald himself is now 20 years old, and occupation is that of a Cooper, birthplace Ayrshire. Samuel his older brother is 38 years old , occupation letter currier ? , birthplace Lanarkshire Crosshill.[8]

1871 November 25th, Archibald, 21 years old, single, occupation Cooper (journeyman) , usual residence 110 Duke St, died due to Laryngitis. Parents recorded as father Robert Allison, occupation illegible ? (dec) mother Rachel m.s. Busby Allison. Informant brother Samuel who was also present at his death.. [9]

Death - Laryngitis :

Because the same passageway through which we produce voice sounds is that through which we breathe. In some cases of laryngitis, breathing becomes so obstructed by the swelling of the vocal cords that it is not possible to obtain sufficient oxygen; this rare result is called hypoxia from Acute Respiratory Distress Disorder.
