Biography

Mrs. Mary E. Swint.

This aged sister was born in 1834 and departed this life April 12, 1920, at Fredonia, Ala., and was buried Tuesday, April 13, at Mount Pisgah Church, where she was baptized by Elder V. D. Whatley in the year 1857, she being a member of Mount Pisgah Church until her death. She was married to John Swint in 1851. She leaves five sons and two daughters and a number of grandchildren, but as we are not informed as to the places of residence of all of them, we name only one of her sons - Mr. Zach Swint, who is a druggist at Lanett. The writer conducted the funeral services at 11 o'clock on Tuesday morning in the presence of a fairly good congregation. She was eighty-six years old on the 14th day of the past February, and was one of the most humble, faithful and lovable characters in all the land. She was ready and willing to leave this world of sin and sorrow and fell asleep to rest forever. The bereaved family has our deepest sympathy and prayers.

The LaFayette Sun" - April 21, 1920:

Fredonia - After a serious illness of five days Mrs. Mary E. Swint died at her home here Monday afternoon at five o'clock at the age of eighty-six. She was buried at Mount Pisgah at 11:00 a.m. April 13th, funeral services conducted by Elder J. T. Satterwhite. As Miss Mary Allman she was married in 1851 to Mr. John Swint, who preceded her to the grave a number of years ago. She was the mother of eleven children. She is survived by five sons, Messrs. W. D. Swint, of Lake Creek, Texas; R. L. Swint, of Snyder, Texas; J. A. Swint, of Sugar Grove, Arkansas; A. V. Swint, of Warrior, Ala., and Z. D. Swint, of Lanett, and two daughters, Mrs. Lucy Rutland, of this place, and Mrs. D. S. Eades, of Warrior. For 63 years she was a faithful, consistent member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Friends here, who knew her during her last years of patient waiting for the call to Glory, loved her for her quiet, sweet disposition. Without the use of glasses, she was constantly busy with embroidery and fancy work to within a week of her death. Mr. Z.D. Swint, Mrs., Liney Rutland and Mrs. E ades were at her bedsise when death came.
